Under Construction – After Party
Erasmuslaan number 9 is part of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht and one of four model houses built to the design of architect Gerrit Th. Rietveld. They are icons of Dutch Modernism. The Rietveld Schröder House is an icon of the city and one of the seminal works of the De Stijl movement.
The gallery is housed in one of four buildings designed by the renowned architect Gerrit Rietveld. Among them stands the icon of Dutch Modernism — the Rietveld Schröder House — a model dwelling forming part of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The gallery works exclusively with artists operating within the field of geometric abstraction, whose practice draws upon the foundational aesthetic principles of the De Stijl movement (Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg). Dutch geometric abstraction, rooted in the ideas of Russian Constructivism (among others, Kazimir Malevich), owes its inspiration to the landscape of the Netherlands.
